Children seem to need privacy and shade or filtered light even more than grown-ups. Light linen curtains and cotton shades together can shadow a room quite well enough for privacy or a nice nap. If the light tends to be bright, light blocking shades or lined curtains are often needed. We do not recommend Roman shades or any treatment with long cords for small children....roller shades and simple curtains are safest.
As for appearance, the turn of the century was a golden era for children. Some of the loveliest illustration was being made for them and that translated in charming murals and stencils and an array of special designs just for them. Colors were muted and soothing and bedrooms and playrooms were meant to be retreats, full of toys, books and memories.
Please look at our appliqué designs below. These designs are large enough for appliquéd Arts & Crafts bedding and embroidered pillows as well as curtains.
Our stencil designs are suitable for rollers shades, unlike applique which adds too much thickness, and they also look great on traditional yardage. Prices for stenciling on bedding may vary - please contact us.
Browse our standard stencil designs as well. The Three Square & Four Square can make nicely colored blocks. The Sailboat Border & the Sunflower, among others, are very suitable for children.
